Biography
Born on February 16, 1792 in the village of Zolotov, Galician district, Kostroma province. He studied at the Moscow University noble hostel and cadet corps . Completing education, about 1811 he entered the military service. Member of the Patriotic War of 1812. In 1818, he resigned and was appointed director of the schools of the Kostroma province; held this post until 1833. In 1836–1844, he was an official in the Postal Department, who at that time was headed by Prince A. N. Golitsyn [1] . Upon his resignation, he lived in Moscow on Smolensky Boulevard [2] , where he died on November 27, 1866 and was buried in the Vagankovsky cemetery [3] .
Literary Activity
Bartenev enjoyed the reputation of a witty man and a talented storyteller, especially jokes [2] . Like his patron prince A.N. Golitsyn, he was interested in philosophy and mysticism . The author of the memoirs "Traits from the life of M. Kheraskov" (1850) and "Stories of Prince A. N. Golitsyn. From the notes of Yu. N. Bartenev ”(1886). His correspondence with the theologian and philosopher, Archpriest F. A. Golubinsky [1], was preserved.
In the album of Bartenev, A. S. Pushkin recorded his poem “Madonna” on August 30, 1830 and accompanied it with a dedication: “In memory of dear Yuri Nikitich Bartenev” [1] . The next day, the owner of the album presented the poet with a book of a French writer with a dedication: “To the well-known Pushkin and Pushkin, a favorite from Bartenev’s memory.”
