Biography
Tibor Tserna - Hungarian by origin. He joined the Yugoslav army in June 1998. [2] He participated in the battle on Koshars against the Albanian fighters and their foreign instructors. The position of the Yugoslav troops was complicated by the fact that the enemy had engaged snipers, destroying Yugoslav soldiers and creating problems for the whole brigade.
On April 27, 1999, Zern, during one of the shootings, climbed out to the front line and stood up to his full height, trying to get the sniper to shoot and betray himself. Coming out into the open, Zerna was wounded in the neck, but he stood on his feet and forced the sniper to shoot again. The second hit was in the forehead, and Zern fell dead, but at the same time the Yugoslav sniper destroyed his opponent. According to a popular urban legend, before the death of Zerna, he said: “It’s worth dying for this land” [3] .
Posthumously Tibor Zern was awarded the Order "For merits in the field of defense and security" [2] .
On June 14, 2017, in the presence of Serbian President Alexander Vucic , a monument was opened in Debelyachi Tiboru Cerna as one of the heroes of the Kosovo war [4] [5] .
