Biography
Vera Ilyinichna Mosolova graduated from the Moscow School in 1893. After graduation, she was accepted into the corps de ballet of the Bolshoi Theater . In the ballet season of 1895/96, she sang the part of Swanilda in Coppelia, her friend Fleur de Lis in Esmeralda, and Frynas in Walpurgis Night.
In 1896-1897 Mosolova began working at the Mariinsky Theater . On December 8, 1896 she performed the part of Emerald in one of the performances. In 1902, she again danced at the Bolshoi Theater. In 1906 she performed the role of Aurora. In the spring of 1912, Mosolova began to teach classical dance at the Moscow Theater School.
Vera Mosolova was the first teacher of Shulamith Messerer [4] , in the future - the Bolshoi Prima Ballerina and teacher. Vera Mosolova was a strict teacher, but Shulamith was able to quickly become one of her favorite students due to her hard work and assertiveness. For Sulamifi and the students of her course, Mosolov conducted additional classes in ballet in her apartment near the theater, for which the students paid with wood. So you could additionally rehearse arabesque or pirouette. The apartment was heated, it had a place for classes and a mirror. There was no machine, but instead they used furniture backs, mostly chairs [5] .
In 1922 she became a dance teacher at the drama school at the Theater named after Vsevolod Meyerhold , where she worked until 1935 [6] .
The height of the ballerina was 166 centimeters - according to the canons of the ballet of the first half of the XX century, she was considered a high ballerina, which is why she was often not performed by the leading ballet parties [7] .
In the first class of the ballet school, Vera Mosolova taught Yevgeny Farmanyants [7] . Vera Mosolova, the ballet dancer Igor Moiseyev, was also the first teacher. His father brought him to his famous ballerina, who was afraid that the street would have a bad influence on a teenager [8] . Mosolova appreciated the boy's abilities [9] and after 3 months of classes [10] led him to the ballet school at the Bolshoi Theater [9] . Vera Mosolova believed that she already had nothing to teach such a student [11] . The ballerina and her student were accepted by the director of the school, to whom Mosolova said that this teenager should definitely study here. The director replied that it was necessary to pass the exam for training, to which Vera Mosolova replied that Igor Moiseyev would pass it without a doubt. So it happened [12] .
Vera Mosolova died on January 29, 1949 in Moscow [4] .
