Journal History

The organ of the Central Council of the Union of sports societies and organizations of the USSR. Designed for teachers of sports schools, coaches, sports judges, senior officials of sports organizations and a wide range of athletes. It has sections: in physical education teams, athletics at school, training equipment and techniques, science and sports, in the Soviet Union, abroad, consultation, bibliography.

The journal publishes theoretical, methodological and scientific articles, materials covering the best practices of modern sports training in various athletics and all-around events, the experience of the best athletes, coaches and referees is transmitted, and the state of athletics in the USSR and abroad is widely covered.

Release Frequency

For many years, 12 issues were published per year. The exception was the first (1955) year of publication (7 issues came out). Since 1996, combined numbers begin to be published. In the future, this practice for the magazine became the norm.

The latest issues of the journals for 1955-1996 had indexes of published articles.

In 2000, a bibliography of the journal Athletics (1955-1996) [3] was published, containing bibliographic descriptions of 10719 articles published in the journal. A number of publications (mainly technical competition results) were not presented in the index.
