Biography

Born in 1888. He mastered the art of training sled deer born from crossing domestic deer with wild ones. He was known as an original performer of epic and genre songs of the Nenets. He was the author of the Nenets play "The Shaman", staged in Naryan-Mar in 1936 at the Olympiad of folk art. In this play, the cunning and greed of shamans is exposed [1] .

He died on May 15, 1967 and was buried at station near Vorkuta ( ). Varsapov's sculpture “Grandfather Matvey” (tree, 1969) by S. A. Kruglov is in the Nenets Museum of Local Lore .
