Misak Vagarshakovich Melkonyan ( Armenian Միսաք Վաղարշակի Մելքոնյան ; March 13, 1938 , Tsebelda - November 7, 2008 ) - scientist in the field of genetics and selection of grapes , Doctor of Biological Sciences (since 1981 ), professor (since 1969 ), corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy Agricultural Sciences (since 2003 ), Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (since 1996 ), Crimean Academy of Sciences , International Academy of Viticulture and Winemaking.

Biography
He was born on March 13, 1938 in the village of Tsebelde of the Gulripshi district of Abkhazia . In 1963 he graduated from the Department of Horticulture and Viticulture of the Yerevan Agricultural Institute . Member of the CPSU since 1963 . In 1963 - 1975 he was engaged in research work, in 1975 - 1985 - deputy director of the Armenian Research Institute of Viticulture, Winemaking and Fruit Growing, in 1985 - 1987 - head of the Republican Industrial Association "Armenpotrebsozhestvo" in Yerevan , from 1987 - 1994 years - General Director of “Zvartnots” APO in the city of Etchmiadzin , at the same time in 1990 - 1993 - head of the department of agricultural industries of the Council of Ministers of Armenia. Corresponding Member of the Armenian Academy of Sciences since 1990 .
Since 1994 , he lived in Yalta . He was the head of the department of selection, genetics of grapes and ampelography of the Institute of grapes and wine "Magarach" of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. In 1998 he was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of the ARC. He died on November 7, 2008 .
Scientific and social activities
He was engaged in the development of the theoretical foundations of heterosis of grapes and identifying the possibilities of combining parental forms in breeding with the aim of inheriting economically valuable properties, obtaining new grape varieties , including frost-resistant ones. The author of 36 grape varieties.
