Mother-of-pearl Eugene [1] ( lat. Issoria eugenia ) is a day butterfly from the nymphalide family .

Description
Fore wing 17–22 mm long. Wingspan 30–36 mm. The upper side of the wings is red, with a pattern of separate rounded black spots. The outer edge of the wing with a black trim. On the underside of the hind wings in the discal region there is a band of silver spots, among which a central, strongly elongated and angular one stands out. Sexual dimorphism : females are somewhat larger and darker than males [1] .
Range
Mountains of Mongolia and Western China. In the territory of Russia inhabits the south of Taimyr , the mountains of southern and eastern Siberia, the north of the Far East , Kamchatka . It is inhabited by motley grass tundras, grassy communities in floodplains, larch and spruce-birch woodlands, as well as ernik tundra. In the mountains, the view rises to an altitude of 1000 m above sea level [2] .
Biology
Over the course of a year, one generation has been developing. The flight time lasts from mid-July to early August. Females lay eggs on or near the stems and leaves of the food plants of the caterpillar. Caterpillars feed on violets (two-flowered, dog, swamp, etc.). Young caterpillars overwinter [2] .
