Club career

Manchester United

From 2005 to 2011 he performed at the youth academy of the Carlisle United football club. In 2011, a fourteen-year-old goalkeeper became a player at the Manchester United Academy [2] .

In the 2013/14 season, Henderson became a member of the Manchester United team under 18 [3] , immediately securing a place in the main team of the Academy [4] . In the 2014/15 season, he continued to show a confident game as part of the Academy team, playing 25 matches, but missed the last games of the season due to injury. He was among the nominees for the prize for the best young player of the year named after Jimmy Murphy, but in the end, Axel Tuanzebe received the award. In August 2015, Henderson signed his first professional contract [5] .

On February 22, 2016, after a series of injuries to the goalkeepers of the first team, Henderson was first included in the application for the match of the main team in the FA Cup match against Shrewsbury Town , but did not appear on the field [6] .

In June 2018, Dean Henderson extended his contract with Manchester United for two years [7] .

Stockport County (rental)

On January 12, 2016, the Englishman went on a monthly rental to Stockport County [8] . He made his debut for the club on January 16, leaving the first team in the match against Nuneaton Town [9] .

After the lease expired, he returned to United, but in March was again leased to Stockport [10] . His first appearance on the field after returning to the club took place on March 26 in a match against North Ferriby United . [11] In total, he spent nine matches for Stockport, in three of which the Englishman's goal remained “dry”.

Grimsby Town (rental)

On August 31, 2016, Henderson joined the Grimsby Town until early January 2017. [12] Henderson began playing for the club as a second goalkeeper, while James McKeone was the main goalkeeper. [13]

Dean Henderson's debut for Grimsby Town took place on December 26, 2016 in a match against Accrington Stanley , in which his team won 2-0 [14] . Henderson's performance in his debut match was praised by team head coach Marcus Bignot [15] . On December 31, 2016, Grimsby Town extended Henderson's lease until the end of January [16] . On the same day, Henderson appeared on the field in the game against Blackpool , defending the match “to zero” [17] .

On January 25, 2017, his rental was again extended until the end of the 2016/17 season [18] . On February 3, 2017, Manchester United returned Henderson from a lease due to an injury to the team’s third goalkeeper, Joel Pereira. [19] By that time, the Englishman had 7 matches for Grimsby Town, keeping his goal “dry” in four of them.

Shrewsbury Town (rental)

On July 10, 2017, Henderson was rented by the Shrewsbury Town Club until the end of the 2017/18 season [20] , receiving a T-shirt with the first number.

Henderson made his debut for the Shrewsbury in the first game of the season against Northampton Town , keeping his goal dry. [21] He also kept his goal “dry” in his next match against Wimbledon [22] . Very quickly established himself as the main goalkeeper. By the end of March, Dean had 13 dry matches in his asset [23] .

On April 8, 2018, he played at Wembley in the final of the Trophy of the Football League against Lincoln City , in which Shrewsbury was defeated 1-0. Later that month, Henderson was included in the “team of the year” League 1 [24] [25] .

At the end of the season, Henderson expressed his gratitude to the club and the hope of returning to Shrewsbury in the future [26] .

Sheffield United (rental)

Before the start of the 2018/19 season, he went on loan to the Sheffield United Championship Club [27] .

Team Career

From 2012 to 2014, Dean played for England until 16 and until 17, playing a total of six matches for them. In 2017, he was included in the England U20 team for the U20 World Cup [28] . At the tournament, Henderson was a substitute goalkeeper and played in only one match against the Guinean national team [29] . England U20 won the World Cup [30] .
