Biography

Born on January 22, 1906 in a peasant family, in the village of Antyushevskaya in the Palem volost of the Veliko-Ustyuzh district of the Vologda province, now Luzsky district of the Kirov region. In 1917 he graduated from the Karavaykov Church and Parish School, then, in 1920, the 2nd-level school in Lalsk . In 1924 he joined the Komsomol, organized a rural Komsomol cell. He graduated from the courses of projectionists, traveled to villages with a movie, and was a correspondent of the great-youth newspaper “Leninsky Smena”. In 1925 he became secretary of this newspaper. A year later, he was transferred to the provincial party newspaper Sovetskaya Mysl, where he goes from reporter to executive secretary. Then, during the year, he worked in the editorial office of the exit newspaper Verkhnetoyemsky lumberjack. In 1932 to 1935 he was deputy editor of the newspaper " Naryana vyder ".

In 1935, Georgy Ivanovich moved to Arkhangelsk, first worked as a secretary for the Star of the North magazine, then moved to the regional newspaper Pravda Severa. He worked as a literary and executive secretary, from 1951 to 1956 - editor of the newspaper. During World War II he was a war correspondent.

In 1940 he published a collection of poems, a significant part of which was devoted to the life of the tundra, and in the second collection, published in 1947, this topic occupied a leading place. In 1946, G. Suftin became a member of the Union of the Union of Writers of the USSR . Starts writing prose. From 1956 to 1965 he was the secretary of the Arkhangelsk regional branch of the Writers' Union, for a number of years he edited the literary North Almanac.

He died on December 23, 1965 in Arkhangelsk . He was buried at the Vologda cemetery .
