Story

This story tells about the friendship and adventure of 13-year-old American girls and a French boy. Much of the plot unfolds in Paris , where the young Lauren King moves with her family. She spends her free time reading the works of Martin Heidegger . Daniel Michon, the same age as Lauren, sticks out all day on the street. His family is not rich, his father is alone, and he is not particularly interested in his son. At one of the rehearsals of the next film director George de Marco, the guys get to know each other. Immediately begin to sympathize with each other. Guys walk together, including near the Vo-le-Viscount , go to the movies. Daniel introduces Lauren to his friend Londe, the same street boy. On the birthday of Lauren, a girl introduces Daniel and Londe with her classmate Natalie. Mama Lauren is against such a campaign in their house and chases the guys out. And steppe Loren Richard, apparently, liked Daniel.

One day, while walking, Daniel and Lauren meet an interesting elderly man, Julius Edmund Santorin, who tells the children equally interesting stories from his life. Julius and Lauren reveal a common love for the poets - the spouses Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning , and Daniel considers the old man eccentric and boring. The boy is jealous. Meanwhile, Julius talks about how he once lived in Venice . It also touches the ancient legend , which says that if a couple in love swims on a gondola under the Bridge of Sighs at sunset, when the bells are ringing and they kiss, their love will be eternal.

Lauren believes in the legend and intends to implement this tradition together with Daniel, but does not say anything about her plans, but will report later. In Paris, the children are not allowed to be together, especially in the Lauren family, and they go far from here to Venice. Julius Santorin is sent along with them, absurdly losing his belongings and money on the trip. Soon it turns out that Julius Santorin was once a criminal, a petty thief, but he does not wish evil to the young heroes of the plot, but wants to help them. Parents Loren and Daniel are concerned about the disappearance of children and go to the police. When it turns out that the guys went to Venice, and a man named Julius Edmund Santorin accompanies them, all possible forces are put forward in search of Lauren and Daniel.

Upon learning that they are wanted, Lauren, Daniel and Julius flee from Verona , where they had recently arrived. However, Julius claims that an ambush awaits them in Venice, and the path there is dangerous. Lauren confesses to Daniel for the reason for this journey. This further reinforces the strength and confidence of the young Daniel and he, nevertheless, assures the rest to continue the journey. In Venice, the guys follow the tradition: they float under the very bridge on the gondola to the sound of bells and kiss. By the time police seized, Julius does not give out the guys until the bells ring.

After a couple of weeks, Lauren and his family leave their home in Paris and move abroad, according to the film, perhaps forever. She warmly says goodbye to the old pickpocket Julius Santorin and her friend boyfriend Daniel, with whom a little romance started.
