Biography
The father of Poping was the navigator Joachim Pipping (1720-1793). F.V. Pipping entered the Royal Academy of Abo in 1799 and completed a university course with a master's degree (1805). He received the position of assistant professor of Greek literature (1806). He continued his studies in classical and oriental languages at Uppsala University (1806-1807). In the fall of 1807, he began his teaching career at the Abo Academy with lectures on Greek grammar. He was engaged in the history of literature. He began to conduct public lectures and. D. Professor of the History of Science (1812). He was appointed deputy librarian of the university (1813). He was appointed professor in the department of the history of science (1814), combining work with her in the library. During the fire in Abo (1827), the university library was almost completely destroyed by fire. Peeping worked tirelessly to restore it after the Imperial Academy moved from Abo to Helsingfors and the Academy was transformed into Imperial Alexander University. Created a unique collection of Finnish prints, Fennica. Peeping is the author of the history of Finnish print art. Rector of the Imperial Alexander University (1833-1839). He was consecrated to the nobility (1839). Having stopped teaching (1837), he remained working as a bibliographer in the university library, developing a catalog system. He was a member of the Senate Finance Department (1841-1855) and head of the Church Affairs Department (1841-1853). He occupied the last place until 1853 and remained a member of the Senate until his retirement (1855). As a result of almost 20 years of work, he completed the cataloging of works in Finnish (1857).
