Biography

Osip Petrovich Amosov was born in 1766 in Arkhangelsk . He was the eldest son in the family of the ship’s commander of the Arkhangelsk Admiralty, Peter Afanasevich Amosov. Osip's younger brother, Ivan, became a famous shipbuilder, brother - Athanasius, graduated from the School of Naval Navigators , served on the ships of the White and Baltic Seas, and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel [2] .

In the spring of 1778, Osip Amosov became a student of the ship foreman of the colonel's rank, who managed the official Solombala shipyard M.D. Portnov . Osip was assigned to serve in the Admiralty as a " Timmer 2nd-grade student." For 10 years he took part in the construction of the ships of the 74-gun ship of the battleship “ Yaroslav ”, “ Vseslav ”, “ Vladislav ”, “ Mstislav ”, “ Kir John ”, “ Peter ” and others, which were built at the Solombala shipyard under the leadership of M D. Portnova, and then the ship master G. Ignatiev .

In 1787, after completing his studies, Osip passed the exam on ship architecture to Portnov and was promoted to “trained Timmerman”. In the spring of 1791, Osip was promoted to ship apprentice and, having received the rank of ensign , departed for a new duty station - the St. Petersburg Main Admiralty , where he worked under the guidance of ship masters V. A. Sarychev , Massalsky and Ivan Kutygin [3] .

In 1798, Osip Petrovich was appointed foreman - head of all ship forests of the Arkhangelsk province. Engaged in logging, selection and sorting of timber for the construction of ships, Amosov repeatedly wrote petitions to be returned to the shipyard and given the opportunity to build ships again.

In April 1805, Osip Amosov was appointed a ship foreman and was assigned for further service in Sevastopol , but did not stay there long. Having handed over the work to organize shipbuilding in the Sevastopol Admiralty to the ship master I. I. Yukharin [4] , O. P. Amosov left for St. Petersburg to the Directorate of Shipbuilding of the Marine Department. Amosov began to deal with the material support of the construction and repair of military ships at the admiralty shipyards of all ports of the Russian Empire.

In 1814, Osip Petrovich Amosov, in the rank of 8th grade, was sent from St. Petersburg to Kazan, where he was in charge of the selection, culling, sorting and vacation from the bottom marinas of precious oak timber for the capital's admiralty. In the 1920s, Osip Petrovich caught a cold and, as a result of a protracted illness, retired, and soon died.
