Geography
The blue well is located in the Slavgorod district of the Mogilev region , 4 kilometers north of the border of the village of Dubno , 2.5 kilometers southeast of the city of Slavgorod [1] .
The source is located at an altitude of 136 m above sea level . The elevation difference is 4-5 m. In the direction of groundwater movement to their exit to the earth's surface, the source is ascending.
A spring flows out of the spring, which is the left tributary of the Goluba River (the Sozh River basin). Its width is 3-8 m, depth - 0.5-1 m. The speed of the water flow in the stream is about 0.4 m / s, in narrow areas it increases to 0.7 m / s and more. The bottom is composed mainly of sand .
Description
The source is a well , which vertically leaves the mine to a depth of 150-200 meters. The volume of outgoing water is 5000 cubic meters of water per day or 60 liters per second.
The source forms a large spring bath measuring 20 by 12 m with a maximum depth of 2 meters.
The groundwater outlet is located in the northwestern corner of the reservoir , is a vertical shaft with a diameter of 1.2-1.3 m. The spring water has a bluish-emerald color, comes from a depth of 100-200 m, where it circulates in the thickness of the chalk .
Source water
In the composition of water there is an increased content of fluorine and silicon . According to the chemical composition, the source water belongs to the bicarbonate class of the calcium group. Total mineralization (sum of dissolved substances) of water in the source is 180.628 mg / dm3. Water has a temperature of about 5 ° C all year round.
Legends
According to legend, the Radimichi tribe was baptized in this source.
It is believed that for a person who has crossed the Blue Krynitsa three times, no illness will bother for a long time, health will be good, and life will be long.
The Blue Well Tradition
The most famous legend is about Catherine and two guys Stepan and Makar, recorded by the famous Mogilev local historian E.R. Romanov in 1891. In the legend, the heroine Catherine appears, for which two giants compete - Stepan and Makar (Mark). Catherine loved Stepan, but he, however, was a little weaker than his rival. She promises to marry the one who will throw the boulder further. Mark wins and Catherine, so as not to live with her unloved, falls from a stone, turns into water and leaves the ground 5 miles from Propoisk in the form of a source - this source was called the Blue Well. Bogatyrsha Ekaterina is also found in other legends. She has obvious features of the ancient archetypal female deity of the earth, water and life, while Stepan is a transparent reference to the image of Veles . Hence, it is possible that the goddess, which corresponds to the later character of Catherine, was his female pair, and in the view itself the traces of the ancient myth of Veles’s conflict with another god for the commitment of some female deity are traced.
Cult Significance
For a long time, the place around the source was considered sacred and was used as a temple . With the advent of Christianity, this place was consecrated and, as they say, was one of the first in the territory of modern Belarus to be considered sacred. Water is considered healing and has high drinking qualities. A church was built near the spring where prayers are held on August 14 for the Orthodox holiday Macovei , when up to 20 thousand pilgrims gather near the Blue Krinitsa.
Flora
The source does not differ in great biological diversity. Significant bottom areas of the spring bath are covered with filamentous algae . Potamogeton acutifolius grows in separate curtains . Impressive is the development of colonies of purple bacteria that form bizarre shapes.
The coastline of the reservoir is overgrown with woody-shrubby vegetation (mainly willow and alder ). Oaks , lindens and hazel are also found nearby.
Fauna
Of invertebrates in the spring bath and stream, caddis larvae ( Trichoptera ) of five species ( Halesus digitatus , Rhyacophila fasciata , Chaetopteryx villosa , species of the genera Anabolia and Halesus ), as well as oatmeal larvae ( Ephemeroptera ), Asellus aquaticus and Acilius sulcat were noted .
Swallows live in gazebos near the spring; in winter you can see wild ducks .
