Biography
In 1840 he entered the University of Tübingen to study theology, but he refused a theological career for the sake of music. In 1844 , Feist showed his writings to Felix Mendelssohn , who recommended that he not go to study anywhere, but to improve his skills on his own. In 1847 , Feist established himself as an organist in Stuttgart, having founded a school of organists, and in 1857 he took an active part in organizing the Stuttgart Conservatory , which he headed until his death. University of Tübingen awarded Feist a doctorate for his research on the History of the Piano Sonata ( German: Beiträge zum Geschichte der Claviersonate ). Further Feist published the School of Choral Singing ( German Chorgesangschule ; 1880 ). Feist also contributed to the editing of Beethoven ’s piano collection.
