The Y-8 crash near Tavoy is a major aviation accident that occurred on June 7, 2017 . The Myanmar Air Force Shaanxi Y-8F-200 transport plane made a flight along the route Miei - Yangon , but crashed into the Andaman Sea 29 minutes after takeoff. Shaanxi Y-8F-200 (registration number 5820) was released in 2016, the same year was transferred to the Myanmar Air Force [1] . On the day of the disaster flew 809 hours.

Crew and passengers

The plane was flown by three pilots:

  • The crew commander is Lt. Col. Nyein Chan.
  • Assistant Commander - Lieutenant Colonel Soe Thu Win .
  • Maj Thant Zin Htay is Major Assistant Commander.

Among the 108 passengers on board were military officers and members of their families (including 15 children), 6 officers and 29 military personnel.

Timeline

Board 5820 followed a flight from Meya to the former capital of Myanmar - Yangon. On board were 14 crew members and 108 passengers [2] .

At 13:06 (06:06 UTC), when the plane was 37 kilometers west of Tavoy , communication with him was lost. At the time of the loss of communication, the aircraft was at an altitude of 5500 meters. A search and rescue operation was launched in the Andaman Sea [3] . A spokeswoman said the weather on the day of flight was normal.
