Biography
Stanich was the son of Ustash , who was killed in 1951 during a special operation of the Yugoslav security services. Until 1966 he lived in Yugoslavia, until after a short stay in France and Germany, he left for Franco- Spain (on the instructions of the Yugoslav special services). He worked in the press service of the Croatian National Resistance organization of Croatian emigration in Karkavent . During this time, he became close to one of the organization’s leaders, Vekoslav "Max" Luburich.
On April 20, 1969, at 10 a.m., Luburich’s son, Domagoy, left home. About 11 o’clock Stanich crept into the kitchen and hammered Vekoslav Luburich with a hammer, hiding the corpse under the bed, and then left the house, leaving for a taxi to Barcelona and without leaving a trace. The body of Luburich was found the next day, April 21 , and buried on April 22 . According to doctors, death occurred within two hours of the attack. Interpol put Stanich on the wanted list on suspicion of premeditated murder, but the efforts of Interpol were in vain, and he did not appear in court.
As it turned out, Stanich moved to Split , where he took over as chief of one of the hotels [1] . In 2003, journalist Francesc Bayarri met the retired Stanich in Sarajevo and interviewed him, which was later published in the book “Meeting in Sarajevo” [2] . Bayarri did not confirm or deny the version that Stanich was a murderer [3] . In 2009, Stanić gave an interview to the Croatian newspaper Globus, in which he confessed to the murder and stated that he repented of what was committed [4] .
The Serbian Information Security Agency is currently denying the version that Josip Broz Tito ordered the liquidation of Luburic and that the UBA was involved in the liquidation of Luburic, but refuses to declassify the documents in this case. A version is also being considered, confirmed in part by Stanich's words that the murder of Luburic was beneficial to his political opponents in the ranks of the Croatian emigration, since he refused to obey Ante Pavelich at the time.
