History

According to legend, the monastery is the zaduzhbin of King Stephen Urosh I [1] . In 1798, the monk Gerasim (Georgievich), better known as Hadji Dzhera, restored the monastery. A new wooden church was built, and the old monastery ruins served as a source of materials for the construction of monastic dwellings. In 1804, Hadji Dzhera was killed by the Janissaries during the massacre of princes [2] [3] .

Around 1835, a new stone church was built on the site of an old wooden church. Thirty years later, it was rebuilt, due to the poor quality of the building [2] . On July 26, 1858, the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Uzhitsk-Krushevatsky, Ioanicius [1] .
