Life and creativity
Alexander Goncharov was born and raised in a working-class family. A five year old boy, he was left an orphan. He was raised by relatives in the city of Rostov-on-Don . From the age of 15 he began working life, working as an assistant at the power plant. In 1930-1931 he worked in the North Caucasian House of the children's communist movement, and from 1932 he moved to the editorial office of the newspaper Rabochy Rostov, and then to the editorial office of the newspaper Udarnik.
In 1933, the city committee of the Komsomol sent Alexander Goncharov to the editorial board of the railway newspaper Zvezda, where he has been working for nine years. For all these years, A. Goncharov published a number of collections of essays and short stories: “White Gold” (1931), “Peers of October” (1932), “Debt” (1941), and others.
In September 1941, the party organization of the North-Caucasian Railway Administration accepted A. Goncharov as a candidate member of the party, and in March 1942 he voluntarily went to the front.
Alexander Goncharov becomes the war correspondent of the army newspaper. Writes essays, combat sketches, feuilletons. In the article "In Memory of a Friend," written in 1970 , the writer Vitaly Zakrutkin recalled:
It was difficult for the editorial staff to work in an atmosphere of continuous battles, bombings, retreat of the depleted army. Among correspondents one of the most executive and tireless was Goncharov, Sasha, as everyone called him ... Despite the fact that the troops were always in motion, he managed to visit many battalions and companies, delivered to the editor the most recent information ... And in the evenings, tired, gray from the road dust, he hastily washed himself, took the guitar and sang songs thoughtfully. | |

In the days of fierce fighting in the Caucasus in October 1942, A. Goncharov decided to become a communist and was accepted into the ranks of the communist party. A year later, for indefatigable correspondent activities in the army newspaper, the command awards Alexander Georgievich Goncharov with the medal “For Military Merit” . Captain A. G. Goncharov deservedly was awarded a military reward, but in the end, a serious illness forced him to leave military service.
In December 1943, he returned to the editorial office of the newspaper Zvezda, already to the post of deputy editor-in-chief. Here he works for two years. Since the autumn of 1945, he goes to work in the Regional Party Committee, and is subsequently approved by the editor-in-chief of the literary and art almanac “Don”.
In 1946 in the Rostov book publishing house a book of his stories "Before the holiday" was published. Since 1947, the disease chained A. Goncharova to bed. Overcoming a serious illness, the writer creates his own story, Our Correspondent. The book is published in Rostov , in Moscow , and later in Sofia and Warsaw in translations into Bulgarian and Polish.
In the prime of his creative power, Alexander G. Goncharov passed away, but his works preserve the memory of him. The creativity of A. G. Goncharov was highly appreciated by V. A. Zakrutkin , B. Polevoi and others.
Alexander Georgievich died in Crimea , in a sanatorium, on November 4, 1952 . When a few days later he was buried hundreds of Rostovites at the Bratskoye cemetery, the November issue of the October magazine appeared in the stalls of the city, where the story Our Correspondent was printed. The issue of the magazine was laid on the writer's chest.
