The Free Center ( Hebrew מרכז חופשי, Merkaz Hofshi ) is one of the political parties in Israel . The factional group of the future party was created in 1965 by the lawyer Shmuel Tamir in the Herut movement. In July 1967, the leadership of the group assigned the leader Herut Menachem Begin personal responsibility for the defeat of the centrists in the parliamentary elections and created an independent party. She was investigating a number of high-profile corruption scandals , which later were reported to the press . Thus, on the party’s initiative, Avtokarz, an auto assembly plant in Haifa , and the state-owned water supply company Mekorot were investigated to identify cases of corruption , theft and fraud ; The case of the Minister of Construction, Abraham Ophir, received wide public response . As a result of the 1969 parliamentary elections, the party won four seats in the Knesset .
