Super mario odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey ( ス ー パ ー マ リ オ オ デ ッ セ イ Sūpā Mario Odessei ) is a video game from the Mario series of games developed by Nintendo EPD for the Nintendo Switch platform. The game is a three-dimensional platformer . Belonging to the main Super Mario series, the game is returning to the first-class, intelligence-based gameplay previously introduced in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine . The development of Super Mario Odyssey began after the completion of Super Mario 3D World in 2013. During the development, various ideas were proposed, and to include them all, the team decided to use a unique game process in the form of a sandbox. Unlike the 3D world, Odyssey was designed specifically for the main audience of the series. The game was released worldwide on October 27, 2017 and received universal acclaim from critics, many of whom called it one of the best games in this series. Within three days of the release, more than two million copies of the game were sold worldwide.

Mario travels to different lands outside the Mushroom Kingdom. The game has an open world based on exploration and design levels previously introduced in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine . The game also has levels inspired by real places like New York . In Super Mario Odyssey, classic gameplay for the platformer genre. Mario can jump and grab ledges. Also, Mario now uses his cap as a spring to climb higher or jump further. The cap is useful for attacking opponents or as a temporary platform [3] . When Mario throws a cap on certain items, at his enemies or unplayable characters , he gains control over them. Officially, this technique is called "slapping", it provides Mario with unique abilities. For example, Mario can slap a Bill bullet to fly at large gaps, slap an electric ball to climb up electric wires, and a tank to shoot at enemies [4] .

Throughout the game, Mario collects coins, including unique for each kingdom. Coins can be spent on new hats and outfits necessary to perform certain tasks. The game has a cooperative mode in which the second player controls Cappie (cap spirit) and can attack enemies regardless of Mario [5] .

To go to the next level, you need to collect the minimum number of Moons of Energy. In the final, Mario meets Bowser on the Moon. In case of victory, the game allows the player to return to previous kingdoms and look for more Moons of Energy [6] . A sufficient number of Moons of Energy allows you to acquire additional things and fight with different bosses. There is also a level in the Kingdom of Mushrooms, in particular Peach Castle modeled on Super Mario 64 . At this level, you can find additional moons of energy that you can earn by reaching certain achievements.

The game has a photo mode that allows players to use a free moving camera to take and save screen shots with additional options - filters and stickers. Using the statuettes Mario, Peach and Bowser Amiibo gives unique playing abilities and costumes that are not available until the player completes the game.

Story

Mario is trying to stop Bowser , who decided to kidnap Princess Peach , to marry her. Bowser knocks Mario off his flying ship. When Mario falls, the rotors of Bowser's airship tear apart his cap. Mario wakes up in the Hat Kingdom and meets Cappie, a resident of the Hat Kingdom, who looks like a cap. Cappie tells Mario that Bowser also abducted his sister Tiara, to use her to create Princess Peach's wedding tiara. When organizing his wedding, Bowser harms residents of other kingdoms. Cappie, seeing the torn cap of Mario, turns into it. This gives Mario the ability to throw a cap and “slap” (infuse into bodies) other creatures and objects.

First, they go to the nearby kingdom and, with the help of the Moons of Energy, restore the airship that will help them find Bowser. Mario and Cappie explore different kingdoms. Bowser and Brodley (the rabbits that organized Bowser's and Peach's weddings) bother them. In the end, Mario and Cappie catch up with Bowser in the Mushroom Kingdom, defeat Brodley, but Bowser goes to the moon. Mario and Cappie follow him to the cathedral on the moon where the wedding is due to take place. During the ceremony, Mario and Cappie get into the cave, but they find Bowser and overcome him. However, the cave suddenly begins to crumble. To escape from Peach, Mario drops Cappie and takes control of Bowser using his powerful claws. Peach is grateful to Mario for his help, but when she is about to kiss him, Bowser bothers them. Mario fights with Bowser, but Peach rejects both of them, leaving with Cappie and Tiara aboard the Odyssey. Mario manages to jump aboard the ship, leaving Bowser with nothing.

Development

Game development began after the release of Super Mario 3D World at the end of 2013. The same development team worked on the game. Under the direction of director Kent Motokur, the team experimented to find fun concepts. For example, the team found that throwing a hat was the most enjoyable action that was performed with the Joy-Con controller, resulting in a “capture” of the hat. In the process of brainstorming, a large number of eccentric ideas appeared, and the developers sought to incorporate them into the game. This led to the creation of various Kingdoms, each of which possessed unique game mechanics.

The developers gave priority to the urban environment. The mayor of the city of New Donk City, the developers appointed a character already familiar to players on Donkey Kong Pauline. The song "Jump Up, Super Star!" Was performed by Kate Davis. Super Mario Odyssey was the first game in the series to use a theme song with vocals. Some of the Mario costume options are also similar to the character costumes in previous games in the series, such as Picross Mario and Super Mario.

Unlike previous games that send Mario to the top of the level after discovering each collectible, Mario constantly searches for the Moon of Energy. The lack of the required Energy Moons to continue the game forces players to explore the world more, and not just go through the plot. The developers wanted the players to explore more all around.

The creator of the Shigeru series Miyamoto did not take part in the search for ideas for the game, but rather acted as an executive producer. A development team advised him on the best ways to express game concepts. Miyamoto's feedback was specific, he made suggestions, not ultimatums.

Downloadable Content (DLC) has also been released for the game. Balloon World was released for free on February 12, 2018. This add-on offers players to hide a balloon in a place in the kingdom in 30 seconds, while other players must find it. In this regard, a system of leaders appeared in which players who found balloons participate.

Music

For the first time in the series, the character needed a song with vocals, which ultimately became the soundtrack of the game. The song “Jump Up, Super Star!” Was created by Naoto Kubo, lead composer of the game and performed by Kate Davis, who was also Paulina’s voice. Texts originally written in Japanese by Nobushi Suzuki. Later they were localized by Nintendo of America employees, in particular Rob Tunstall with the help of the English writer Rob Heyret. Nintendo wanted to create a “funny” jazz track that could be used off-site, but with links to the Mario franchise. Another vocal track featured in Break Free (Lead the Way) was written later. Other music for the game was written by Siho Fuji and composer of the Koji Kondo series.

Two weeks before the release of the game, Nintendo uploaded a music promo video with a song in which Mario appeared along with the dancers. The song was released on iTunes and broke into the TOP 40 best songs in the United States. In February 2018, a four-disc soundtrack consisting of 136 tracks was released in Japan. The soundtrack included comments from Aimi Mukohara, who performed the Japanese version of Jump Up, Super Star! In addition to this soundtrack, a digital album of 12 tracks appeared on iTunes in December 2017.

Promotion and Issue

Lead producer Yoshiaki Koizumi hinted that a new 3D Mario-style game has been under development since 2014. The name of the game appeared in the Nintendo Switch announcement at the end of 2016 and was officially announced at the Nintendo presentation in January 2017. Shots from the game soon followed. At E3 2017, developers presented the New Donk City section with a demo of the game.

On October 10, 2017, Nintendo uploaded a music trailer for the game’s main theme, Jump Up, Super Star!, To its YouTube channel. The game was released on October 27, 2017. Along with the game, white wedding figurines of Mario, Bowser and Princess Peach went on sale. Along with the game, Nintendo released a limited edition of the collection, which included a Switch console with a pair of Jappy-Cons, Cables-red, Joy-Cons, a carrying case and an eShop download code for the game. In November 2017, Nintendo, in collaboration with Kellog's, an American food company, produced cereals called Super Mario Cereal. On the box was an NFC tag.
