Double fantasy

Double Fantasy (from the English. - "Double Fantasy") - a studio album by John Lennon and Yoko Ono , released in 1980, three weeks before the tragic death of Lennon. The album reached number one in the British and American charts. Two singles (“ (Just Like) Starting Over ” and “ Woman ”) topped the UK charts (both No. 1 and No. 2 in the USA, respectively). In 1982, Douglas, Lennon, and Ono won the Grammy Award for Best Album of the Year [11] . In 1989, the album was included under No. 29 in the list of 100 best albums of the 1980s of Rolling Stone magazine [12] .

About the album

The album was preceded by the release of the single “ (Just Like) Starting Over ”, along with the song Ono “ Kiss Kiss Kiss ” on the back of the record [13] . He was released as a single on October 20, 1980 in the United States, and four days later in the UK [nb 1] [13] . Initially reached No. 8 position in the UK, and after the assassination of John Lennon, the single rose to first place. In the USA, he also reached the top of the chart [13] .

A copy of this album, which John Lennon signed to Mark Chapman , was put up for sale in 2003 for 525 thousand US dollars [14] . In 2010, it was again put up for sale [15] . According to some reports, it was sold in April 2011 for 530 thousand pounds [16] .

The album was released on November 17 at the same time in the UK and in the USA [nb 2] [17] . Label Geffen planned a special cover for Lennon's return, but It did not decide on photography. [18] Not wanting to miss the deadline, Geffen used one single as the front cover, choosing a frame from the same photo shoot for the back of the cover. The tracks were ordered as a dialogue between Lennon and Ono; one of his tracks followed her track [19] . Initially, there was no sequence on the cover [20] . Initial sales were sluggish. In the UK, the album reached only No. 14, then fell to No. 46 [21] , while in the USA it reached No. 11. Later, the disc topped the American Billboard album chart, remaining at No. 1 for eight weeks [22] , and in the UK he rose to No. 2, where he stayed for 7 weeks, and then for 2 weeks he stayed not in first place [21] .

The track “ Woman ” became Lennon’s posthumous single (on the reverse side was Ono’s song “Beautiful Boys”) [23] . It was released January 12, 1981 in the United States and January 16 in the UK [nb 3] , reaching No. 1 in the UK and the USA on the Cash Box chart [23] , and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks lingering there [24] . The final single from the wild was the song “ Watching the Wheels ” (on the back of the track “Yes, I'm Your Angel”), which reached No. 10 in the USA and No. 30 in the UK [25] . This single was released March 13, 1981 in the United States and March 27, 1981 in the UK [nb 4] [25] .
