Neil Vasilievich Savin ( January 29, 1908 , St. Petersburg - October 20, 1996 , ibid.) - Soviet kayaker and kayak and canoeing coach. Multiple champion of all-Union championships in various rowing disciplines, a member of the sports society "Pischevik", Honored Master of Sports of the USSR . He worked as a trainer in the sports society "Trud" and for many years headed the women's rowing team of the Soviet Union, Honored Trainer of the USSR , personal trainer of three-time Olympic champion Lyudmila Pinaeva .

Biography
Neil Savin was born on January 29, 1908 in St. Petersburg . He was engaged in rowing at the Leningrad Regional Council of the voluntary sports society Pishevik, graduated from the P. F. Lesgaft State Institute of Physical Culture (now the P. F. Lesgaft National State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Health ).
The first serious success at the All-Union level was achieved back in 1934, when he won the USSR Championship in the standings of single kayaks at a distance of 1000 meters. Two years later, at similar competitions, he repeated this achievement.
He was forced to interrupt his sports career due to the outbreak of World War II , but in the second half of the 1940s he returned to sports and again became one of the best rowers in the country. So, in 1946, he became the champion of the Soviet Union in the classification of double kayaks at a distance of 2000 meters, in 1948 and 1949 he won among the loners at ten kilometers, in the period 1950-1951, along with team-mate Georgy Krasnopevtsev, he twice became the country's champion in doubles ten kilometer distance. In addition, he repeatedly won the All-Union rowing championships (on boats). For outstanding sporting achievements he was awarded the honorary title " Honored Master of Sports of the USSR " in kayaking and canoeing.
After completing his sports career, he took up coaching. For many years, he held the position of senior coach of the USSR national women's rowing team, in particular, he led the Soviet team at the four summer Olympic Games ( 1952 , 1964 , 1968 , 1972 ). He worked as a trainer in the voluntary sports society "Labor".
One of his most famous students is Honored Master of Sports Lyudmila Pinaeva , three-time Olympic champion, seven-time world champion. He was the personal trainer of his younger sister Nina Savina , the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games, multiple champion of the All-Union championships, who also achieved the title of Honored Master of Sports. He participated in the preparation of such famous rowers as Igor Pisarev , Pavel Bakharev, Fedor Selivanov and others. [1]
For success in the coaching field, Neil Savin was awarded the title " Honored Coach of the USSR ", repeatedly received the title of best coach of Leningrad and the USSR, twice awarded the Order of Honor (1969, 1972).
He died on October 20, 1996 in St. Petersburg [2] [3] .
