Biography
Born in 1865, at birth received the name Ludwig Karl August. He began to study music in Minsk, where he received a secondary education. In 1880 he entered the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Pavel Avgustovich Pabst . A year later, he continued his studies with Edward Leopoldovich Langer , and then in high school he returned to Pabst, who received the post of professor. He graduated from the conservatory in 1888 [1] .
He began his career in Tambov , where he taught at the Tambov branch of the Imperial Russian Musical Society [4] and performed as a pianist. In 1892 he returned to the Moscow Conservatory as a piano teacher of junior classes. In 1909 he became a professor and until 1925 worked with senior classes. Among the students of Kipp, of whom there were more than three hundred, are V.N. Argamakov, A.Arsenyev, L.A. Barabeychik, N. Baratova, V.V. Brainin, Yu.V. Bryushkov , A. B. Dyakov, V. Yepaneshnikova, V. Zaderatsky , E. N. Kalashnikova (Petrova), P. A. Lamm , L. G. Lukomsky, M. Meychik , A. Mihalchi, N. A. Orlov, L. P. Orlova , T. V Ostrovskaya, N. V. Otto, L. A. Polovinkin , G. P. Prokofiev, M. R. Rauhverger , E. Slavinskaya, T. Petrushevskaya (Rudenko), A. Shatskes, B. L. Yavorsky [1] [3] [2] . In addition to teaching at the Conservatory, Kipp gave private lessons, worked at the Usachev-Chernyavsky College , the Catherine Institute , the National Conservatory and the Technical School named after Glazunov [1]
Kipp's pedagogical activity was characterized by an individual approach to the student [3] , and the widest range of material used in training [1] . He gained the greatest prestige as a teacher of elementary grades, where he managed to work with students of any level and preparation, developing as much as possible their piano technique. Another important example was Kipp's own example, all the while devoting his own skill and honing to pedagogical work [1] .
In Moscow Kipp continued to give concerts, but he performed mainly in a narrow circle. One of the brightest performances was the performance on December 9, 1907 of the Piano Concerto for d-moll Mozart . Critics noted the excellent technique of the pianist and the high musicality of the performance [1] . However, some monotony of sound was found in his game [3] , and the American-Polish pianist Joseph Hoffmann was called as a source of inspiration [1] .
He died on March 26, 1925 [5] [K 2] , was buried in Moscow at Vvedensky Cemetery [1] [6] .
