Biography

Born on October 14, 1912 in the family of a working metallurgical plant.

In 1931 he entered the Kharkov Institute of Physical Culture, which he graduated in 1935 and remained a teacher in the gymnastics department. He took up handball - he was the goalkeeper of the Ukrainian SSR team. He was awarded the title of master of sports in handball and gymnastics [1] .

Member of the Great Patriotic War , fought as a partisan in the Kyiv region. During the liberation of Ukraine he was wounded and taken to the base hospital in Sverdlovsk . For healing he was appointed head of physical preparation of the 60th Infantry Regiment in the Urals Military District .

After the war, Mishakov returned to Kiev and began working as a teacher in the gymnastics department of the Kiev Institute of Physical Education (now the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine ). At thirty-two years old, he began training again and returned to the big sport. He played for the national team of Kiev in gymnastics. Then he became a coach of the USSR national gymnastics team. He prepared a number of athletes, including prominent Larisa Latynina and Boris Shakhlin . His pupils won 18 gold 10 and silver 12 bronze Olympic awards [1] .

Alexander Semyonovich Mishakov was a member of the Presidium and chairman of the coaching council of the Gymnastics Federation of the Ukrainian SSR, as well as a member of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports under the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR [2] .

He died on January 17, 1993 . He was married to Alexandra Georgievna, the family grew, two children - a son and daughter Larissa Valery.

Merit

  • He was awarded the Orders of the Red Banner and Badge of Honor, as well as medals, including "For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" and "For Valiant Labor".
  • He was awarded the marks "Excellence in Public Education" and "Excellence in Physical Education".
  • In Kiev, at the addresses: Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, 2 and Nikolay Mateyuk Street, 4 - memorial plaques were installed to A. S. Mishakov [2] .
