Geography
The area is located in the west of the city. It borders with the central district of the city in the east, and is surrounded by the Stavropol district of the Samara region from the west and north. In the south, it reaches the bank of the Volga (the first along the river).
It is geographically divided into 28 quarters, bounded by major roads, usually a boulevard passes inside each block.
History
The area appeared along with the WHA . Simultaneously with the signing of the decree on the construction of the plant ( July 20, 1966 ), the country's government decided to create a new residential area. In March 1967, the first peg of marking for the communal networks of Avtograd was hammered, and on March 29 the first bucket of land was removed - the construction of a residential area began, which was carried out in parallel with the construction of the plant. October 31, 1967 the management of "Zhilstroy" laid the foundation for the first house in the Avtozavodsky district of the city of Togliatti. The main developer and owner of the housing stock as well as the social and cultural facilities of the Avtozavodsky district was Volzhsky Automobile Plant .
Construction was carried out in a parallel way: residential quarters were built almost simultaneously with their planning. A new district was created "from scratch", and this made it possible to take into account the geographical features of the area. For example, the streets are located at such an angle that the city is well blown by the winds from the Volga . This is one of the factors that improve the environmental situation in the area. Architects, being practically unlimited in scale of construction, designed the roads wide enough by the standards of the 1960s so that they could pass a large amount of transport. Despite the fact that the concentration of cars in Togliatti today is about the same as in Moscow, the problem of traffic jams here is not as relevant as in the capital. Greening of the neighborhoods was carried out according to the scientific system, and long-lasting and well-cleared species of trees and shrubs were used.
On April 14, 1968, the Zhilstroy-1 team began construction of a high-rise building; on January 7, 1969, the first residential building of the 1-D district was commissioned for decoration. On May 12, 1969, the first tenants settled in the houses of the Avtozavodsky district and in 1969 20 thousand people lived in the district, and in 1970 - 50 thousand. On April 14, 1972, the 100,000th resident was registered. On September 1, 1969, the first school for 2350 students opened in the Avtozavodsky district. [four]
Quarter 15 and 16 were built according to the Komsomol program of the Komsomol Central Committee , “ Youth Housing Complex ” (MZHK). [five]
Residential complexes “Lesnaya Sloboda” and “Dubrava” (17th quarter) - opposite the 17th quarter near the forest, were built on the territory of the former missile military unit, which was based there in 1965-1995.
Currently, the area is gradually expanding its borders.
In 2008, construction began on the Lesnoy residential microdistrict and the Bely Gorod residential complex (14th quarter) - opposite the 14th quarter, new houses are being built right next to the forest.
