Biography
Kerry Gay Smith was born on December 21, 1950 in , Western Australia , Australia. After graduating from the University of Western Australia with a degree in mathematics, she received a bachelor of science ( BS ), and later a bachelor's degree in economics ( B.Ec. ). At the age of 21, she married an engineer, Lance Sanderson ( Lance Sanderson ), who worked in the field of telecommunications, they had two sons. Lance Sanderson passed away in 2007. [2]
After graduating, Kerry Sanderson began her work in the financial administration of Western Australia. She worked there for 17 years, the last five of which she led the economic and financial policy department [3] .
In 1991–2008, Kerry Sanderson worked as the chief executive officer ( CEO ) of the ( Fremantle , Western Australia). During her tenure, container trade through this port has quadrupled [4] .
From November 2008 to December 2011, Kerry Sanderson worked in London as the general agent of the government of Western Australia in Europe. In this position, she was responsible for expanding the export of goods produced in Western Australia, as well as for increasing investment in the state economy [4] .
In August 2014, it was announced that Kerry Sanderson would be appointed governor of Western Australia and take office on October 20, 2014 [5] . On October 20, 2014, she took the oath and officially assumed office, becoming the 32nd Governor of Western Australia and the first woman in the post [1] .
Awards
In January 2001, Kerry Sanderson was awarded the Centenary Medal in honor of the Australian Federation [6] , in June 2004 she became an officer of the Order of Australia ( AO ) [7] , and in June 2016 - a companion of the same Order ( AC ) [ 8] .
