Melisandre is a character in the fantasy song series Song of Ice and Fire by American writer George Martin . It is one of the central characters ( POV ) of the series, on behalf of which a part of the chapters of the novels is conducted. Appears in the books “ The Battle of the Kings ” (1998) and “The Storm of Swords ” (2000), and in the books “ Dance with the Dragons ” (2011) and “ Winds of Winter ” [1] is the central character.

The priestess of R'glore , whose cult is widespread in Essos , Melisandra, like other adherents of the fiery god, has serious magical abilities, is able to predict the future and practices necromancy . She uses all this to plant the cult of R'glore in the lands of Westeros, having managed to convert King Stannis Baratheon into a new faith and manipulate him for a long time.
In the television series Game of Thrones , the role of Melisandra is played by Dutch actress Caris van Houten . In the series, Melisandra first appears in the second season and is the main character.

In episode 2 of season 6 of the series, Melisandra resurrected John Snow. Probably the same thing will happen in this book [3] .
In film adaptation
In the book, Melisandra was not near Stannis during the campaign on Winterfell, she remained in the Black Castle. The red priestess constantly warned John of impending danger and "blades in the dark", but he did not take her warning seriously [4] .
Season Two
There is no line with Courtney Penrose in the series, so Sir Davos is taking Melisander to the mainland to eliminate Renly Baratheon.
Season Three
In the third season, Melisandra directly tells Stannis that conceiving the next shadow can be deadly for him, and so she goes in search of royal blood in Westeros, clearly seeing the news of the living bastard of Robert - Jendry, who also performs the functions in the series Edric Storm.
Season Four
At the beginning of season 4, she tried to lure Shiren into the Rglorian faith, burned a relative of Queen Selisa, Sir Alester Florentine. In her chambers, she took Selisa, whom she persuaded to take Shiren with her to the Wall. At the end of season 4, she arrived with Stannis Baratheon in Black Castle and witnessed the burning of the bodies of the Night Watch's dead brothers by Meister Eyemon.
Season Five
In the fifth season, Melisandra frankly offers himself to John, but John refuses under the pretext of his oath and after Melisandra goes with Stannis on a trip to Winterfell. She persuades Stannis to sacrifice Shiren so that Rglor stops the blizzard, but as soon as she ends, a massive desertion comes from the army, and Queen Selisa hangs herself. Melisandra herself, apparently seeing the defeat of her king in flame, flees to the Black Castle. To the questions of John Snow and Davos Seaworth, she, broken by defeat, does not answer anything.
Sixth season
At the very beginning of season 6, it was shown that Melisandra hides his real age and human appearance with magic. She lost faith in Rglora after the defeat of Stannis and the death of John Snow. Brought John Snow back to life. I discovered John Snow who came to life and informed him that he was the true Azor Akhai. She witnessed the execution of conspiracy against John Snow. From Brienne I learned about the death of Stannis. She took part in the military council at Black Castle. I went with John Snow, Davos Sivort, Tormund and Sansa Stark to negotiate with the Northern Lords. I went camping on Winterfell. Denied John Snow a request not to return him from the dead in case he perishes in the Battle of the Bastards. She was forced to make excuses to John Snow and Davos Seaworth for the death of Shiren Baratheon. At the very end of season 6, she was expelled by John Snow from Winterfell under the threat of death.
Seventh Season
At the beginning of season 7, she met Daenerys on Dragon Stone and advised her to summon the King of the North John Snow. During the arrival of John and Davos on the Dragon Stone, she spoke with Varis. Predicted Varis that they would both die in Westeros.
Season
In the final season, Melisandra arrives at Winterfell [5] . Helps warriors with fire magic. Reminds Arya that she must kill the King of the Night. After the battle is over, he takes off his necklace and dies.
