NXT Champion [1] - champion title [1] in professional wrestling , created and promoted by WWE [2] wrestling promotion on the NXT [3] brand. It was created on July 1, 2012 . Seth Rollins [4] became the first champion.

History
The title [1] was presented on July 1, 2012 at the NXT [3] when Commissioner Dusty Rhodes [5] announced the tournament, the winner of which will be the first ever NXT champion [1] . The tournament was attended by both NXT [3] resellers and resellers from the main WWE roster [2] . In the tournament finals, Seth Rollins [4] and Ginder Mahal [6] met. The winner and first ever champion of NXT [1] was Seth Rollins [4] [7] . November 19, 2016 at NXT TakeOver: Toronto [8] Samoa Joe [9] became the first NXT champion [1] to win this title [1] 2 times.
On April 1, 2017 at WrestleMania Axxess [10] , NXT General Manager [3] William Rigal [11] announced that all champion titles of this brand would change their designs. On the same day at NXT TakeOver: San Antonio [12] Bobby Rood [13] defended his championship [1] against Shinske Nakamura [14] , after which he was awarded the new title design [1] [15] .
