Reinhold Hanning ( German: Reinhold Hanning ; December 28, 1921 , Helpup - May 30, 2017 , Lage ) is a former SS guard in the Auschwitz concentration camp [1] . In June 2016, the Detmold Land Court sentenced Hanning to five years in prison, declaring him involved in the deaths of at least 170 thousand people.
Biography
Born December 28, 1921, raised in Lippe . He worked at the factory. At the age of 14 he joined the Hitler Youth . Five years later, voluntarily joined the SS . With the outbreak of World War II, he entered the service of the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich . " July 25, 1940 joined the detachment " Dead Head ", and in January 1942 he was sent to serve in the Auschwitz death camp. In 1941, in the battles near Kiev he was wounded by a fragment of a grenade. As a result of the wound, he could not continue the front-line service and was sent to serve in Auschwitz. [2] In September 1943, received the rank of Unterscharführer at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. In June 1944, he was transferred to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. In May 1945 he was captured, released on May 20, 1948. For a short time he worked as a cook for the British troops in Lipp , then a truck driver and a salesman. In 1964 he went into business. In 1984, he retired.
