Biography
Born on March 26, 1901 in the village of Astafyevo , now located in the rural settlement of Poretskoye, Mozhaysky District, Moscow Region . Russian [2] .
Military Service
Civil War
In March 1920, he was drafted into the Red Army and sent to the 5th spare Moscow regiment. On June 2, he was enrolled as a cadet at the 2nd Moscow Command Infantry Course . In their composition in March 1921 he took part in the suppression of the Kronstadt rebellion . At the end of the courses in December 1921 he was appointed platoon commander in the 6th Tula Training and Personnel Brigade in Moscow [2] .
Interwar years
In March 1922, Russkov was transferred to the 105th Podolsky Rifle Regiment. A month later, with a marching company, he left for Petrograd and joined the 1st police regiment of Petrograd. In 1923, he was renamed the 58th Petrograd Rifle Division as part of the 20th Rifle Division. In this regiment he served as the commander of the department, the commander of a small platoon and platoon of a regimental school, and the company commander [2] .
In October 1929 he was sent to the Leningrad Infantry School , where he held the posts of course commander, assistant company commander, assistant head of the school’s combat unit. In June 1934 he was transferred by the commander of a cadet company to the Omsk Infantry School named after M.V. Frunze [2] .
Since March 1936, he commanded a battalion in the 213th Infantry Regiment of the 71st Infantry Division of the Siberian Military District . From December 1937 to August 1938 he studied at the Shot courses , and upon completion of training he was appointed assistant chief of the 4th Division of the 1st Division of the Headquarters of the 1st Separate Red Banner Army in the city of Voroshilov . Since December 1939, he held the post of head of the department for command staff of the Office of the Front Group. In August 1940 he was transferred to the Moscow Military District as an assistant commander for the combatant unit of the 394th Infantry Regiment of the 110th Infantry Division , which was forming in Tula . Subsequently, the division became part of the 61st Rifle Corps [2] .
World War II
On July 22, 1941, Major Russkov was appointed chief of the 2nd branch of the headquarters of the 2nd rifle division of the militia of the Stalin district of Moscow . Upon completion of the formation, she departed for the 32nd army . On August 20, 1941, Russkov served as commandant of the army headquarters. In early October, the 32nd Army, as part of the troops of the Reserve Front, conducted defensive battles near Vyazma , where it was surrounded. It was not until October 18 that Russkov managed with a team of gunners to reach his troops in the area of Mozhaysk in uniform and with weapons. After verification, he was appointed senior assistant to the chief of the 1st Division of the 1st Division of the Headquarters of the 33rd Army of the Western Front . In this position he participated in the battle of Moscow , in the Mozhaisk-Maloyaroslavets and Naro-Fominsk defensive operations. Since the beginning of the counterattack near Moscow, the army’s troops launched an offensive in the Bohr direction on December 12, 1941, participated in the liberation of the cities of Naro-Fominsk , Borovsk , Vereya [2] .
On January 25, 1942, Major Russkov took command of the 1289th Infantry Regiment of the 110th Infantry Division . Participated with him in the Rzhev-Vyazemsky offensive operation . By early February, units of the division in the army reached the approaches to Vyazma . However, the enemy managed to cut off the army from the main forces of the front with strong counterattacks. Until June, the division waged heavy battles in the encirclement in the Vyazma area, and after a breakthrough to its troops, it was reorganized. For military distinctions in these battles, Lt. Col. Russkov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner [2] .
Since February 1943, Russkov took command of the 35th Rifle Brigade of the Western Front, and from June 19 he was admitted to the post of deputy commander of the 42nd Rifle Division . From July 16 to November 28, 1943 he was in the reserve of the Supreme Command, graduated from the crash course of the Higher Military Academy. K. E. Voroshilov , then again was at the disposal of the Military Council of the Western Front [2] .
On December 10, 1943, Colonel Russkov was admitted to command of the 42nd Infantry Division , which was part of the 33rd Army. In the period from December 28 to December 31, when introducing into the battle its units showed disorganization. The division was late with its initial position for the offensive; the division commander Russkov lost orientation and regiment control. For this, Russkov was removed from his post and in early January 1944 was appointed deputy commander of the 222nd Infantry Division . In the battles for the city of Vitebsk on March 3, 1944, Russkov was seriously injured, as a result of which he lost his leg. Until the end of August, he was treated at the hospital, then he was at the disposal of the GUK NPO [2] .
On November 5, 1944, Colonel Russkov was transferred to the reserve due to illness [2] .
Post-war time
After the war, Russkov and his family moved from Tula to Moscow. He worked as an engineer at a woodworking plant until his retirement in 1953.
