Vladimir Igorevich Gurevich (b. 1956, Kharkov , Ukrainian SSR , USSR ) - Ukrainian electrical scientist, candidate of technical sciences, professor emeritus, author of 15 books [1] published in Russian and English, over 200 scientific and technical articles [2 ] , more than 100 inventions [3] , the author of a new type of high-voltage insulating interfaces " Herkotrons ". V. I. Gurevich was the first in the post-Soviet countries to raise the issue of cyber hazard for microprocessor-based relay protection devices and the danger of deliberate destructive electromagnetic effects.

V. I. Gurevich is an expert of the Technical Committee SC77C (High Power Transient Phenomena) of the International Electrotechnical Commission - IEC (Standards in the field of protection of civilian equipment from an electromagnetic pulse of a high-altitude nuclear explosion - EMP nuclear power, as well as from other sources of deliberate electromagnetic destructive effects - PEDV) , full member of CIGRE WG C4.54 (Protection of electronic control systems for high-voltage electric networks from the electromagnetic pulse of a high-altitude nuclear explosion).

Education
V.I. Gurevich was born in 1956 in Kharkov. In 1973, he graduated from 61 high school in Kharkov with an honorary diploma in physics. In 1978 he graduated with honors from Kharkov National Technical University. Petra Vasilenko , Faculty of Electrification (now the Institute of Energy and Computer Technology) with a degree in Power Supply. From 1980 to 1983 he studied at graduate school. In 1986 he defended his thesis on the topic: “Quasistatic switching and control equipment with high potential isolation” (DSP) at the National Technical University “Kharkov Polytechnic Institute” with a degree in “Electrical Appliances”

Professional Activities
V.I. Gurevich worked as a teacher, acting Associate Professor of Kharkov National Technical University. Petra Vasilenko, chief engineer and director of the Inventor Scientific and Technical Enterprise (Kharkov). He led several projects for the development of new types of equipment, commissioned by the Ministries of Defense Industries of the USSR, including those included in the types of special equipment, such as:
- ground equipment of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system (NIEMI, Moscow)
- special power plant based on the effect of superconductivity for demagnetization of the hulls of nuclear submarines (TsNIISET, St. Petersburg)
- TWT protection device of a powerful ship communication transmitter (FGPU NIIRadio, Moscow)
- power supply system of increased survivability of maintenance-free reinforcing points (NUP) of long wire lines of special communications (Research Institute "Soliton", Ufa)
- power supply system for modulator cabinets of a powerful ground-based radar for early detection of air defense (FGPU Pravdinsky Radio Plant, Pravdinsk, Nizhny Novgorod Region)
- power supply system of the radio complex “Bumblebee” in the radar for long-range radar detection and control (DRLO) type A-50 (VNIIRT, Moscow)
- device for testing the insulation of airborne multicore cables in the process of rocket production (Scientific Research Institute of Engineering Technologies, Perm)
- powerful electrophysical installations for special purposes (NIIEFA named after Efremov, St. Petersburg),
and also engaged in the development and organization of the production of automation devices for the energy and industry.
Currently V.I. Gurevich works in the Electrical Company of Israel as a Senior Specialist, Head of Section of the Central Electric Laboratory. Main research interests: reliability of microprocessor relay protection devices , protection of electronic and electrical equipment of power systems from an electromagnetic pulse of a high-altitude nuclear explosion (EMR).
