Nikolaev (Kulbakino) ( Eng. Kul'bakyne (formerly called the “Waterhole”)) is a large military airfield on the southeastern outskirts of Nikolaev ( Nikolaev region ), Ukraine . At present, the 299th tactical aviation brigade of military unit A-4465 and the Nikolaev Aircraft Repair Plant are deployed.

History
As part of the USSR
The airfield began to be used in 1935, as a training airfield of the Nikolaev School of Naval Pilots of the Glavsevmorput. It also housed the aircraft repair workshops of the State Medical University, which were transferred to the flight school in 1939.
At the airfield training squadrons (then reformed into the 1st, 2nd, 5th training mine-torpedo aviation regiments) of the Nikolaev VMAU were located. The 1st UMTAP was reorganized into the 1580th UAP, the 2nd UMTAP was reorganized into the 1581st UAP, and in 1952 both regiments were transferred to the 93rd All-Ukrainian Military Aviation Administration.
In 1940, on the air. The 78th separate bomber squadron on SB planes (10 aircraft) was formed by the watering hole. The squadron took part at the initial stage of the war and was disbanded in early 1942.
The 5th UMTAP in December 1950 became the 1684th UMTAP, in 1955 it was renamed the 951st UMTAP, in 1959 it became the 540th UMTAP, subordinate to the newly formed 33rd Naval Aviation Training Center.
In 1967, the 33rd training center of aviation of the Navy was renamed the 33rd center of combat use and retraining of the flight personnel of aviation of the Navy named after E. N. Preobrazhensky .
As of 1992, at the Nikolaev (Kulbakino) airfield, the 33rd center for combat training and retraining of the aviation personnel of the USSR Navy, the 540th instructor-research marine missile carrier regiment (18 Tu-22M2 , and 21 Tu-16 ) were deployed, 316th separate anti-submarine aviation squadron (3 Be-12 and 4 Tu-142MZ ), 278th separate transport aviation squadron ( Tu-134 , Tu-154 , Il-62 , An-24 , An-26 ). In the same year, as a result of the collapse of the USSR, the 33rd PPI and PLC came under the jurisdiction of Ukraine
As part of Ukraine
After transferring to the jurisdiction of Ukraine, all Tu-22M2 and Tu-22M3 were withdrawn from the 540th regiment. The first type of machine was cut into aero. Kulbakino, newer ones were transferred to Poltava, where they were also disposed of between 2002-2006. In 1997, the 540th MRAP was reorganized into the 540th BAP and received the Su-24 from the 29th UAP (Berdyansk). In 2000, a training squadron on the L-39 was formed as part of the regiment, but already during the reduction of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2002-2003, the regiment was disbanded. Squadron L-39 became a separate unit and existed until 2007, then was disbanded.
On September 1, 2003, the 299th tactical aviation brigade was established; in May 2005, the brigade was relocated to the Kulbakino airfield. The brigade is armed with Su-25 and L-39 aircraft .
From April 10, 2014 to 2018, the 204th tactical aviation brigade based on the MiG-29 and L-39M aircraft was based at the Belbek airfield at the Kulbakino airfield.
