“ Boa constrictor ” is a novel by the Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko . It was allegedly written in 1877 [1] . First published in 1878 in Lviv magazines " Gromadsky friend "No. 2, pp. 98-109," Dzvin , p. 187-202 and The Hammer, p. 39–62 [~ 1] .

A separate book was first published in 1884 in the publication of the Lviv magazine Zorya, with which the writer was collaborating at that time. For a separate publication, Franco edited the magazine text of the work: long dialogues and naturalistic scenes of the rage of cholera in Galicia were removed, stylistic changes were made, and an ending was added [2] . By 1907, the third edition of the work was revised, based on the second.
The story was first translated into Russian in 1898 by Vladimir Bonch-Bruevich , however, this translation was not timely released due to the prohibition of royal censorship on the publication of Franco's works. In 1956, a translation of Alexander Deutsch was published in a 10-volume collected works of Franco.
