Naguib Kanawati ( Naguib Kanawati , born May 27, 1941, Alexandria ) - Egyptian-Australian Egyptologist, specialist in the Ancient Kingdom . Distinguished professor at Macquarie University and director of the Australian Center for Egyptology (at the university) he founded, a member of the Australian Academy of Humanities ( Eng. , 1997). He is called the leading Egyptologist in Australia [1] , which is recognized worldwide [2] .

Biography
He graduated from the University of Alexandria with degrees from the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in History and Archeology and the Master of Arts (MA) in Egyptology [3] . The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Egyptology received at Macquarie University in 1975 [3] [4] . He taught at Auckland University. Since 1980, he has been teaching at Macquarie University - initially a lecturer, since 1990 he occupied the personal department of Egyptology, the first professor of Egyptology at the university [5] . In 1981, the founder of the Rundle Foundation for Egyptian Archeology, and in 1989 the Australian Center for Egyptology, and until now its director.
Now professor of Egyptology, Department of Ancient History, Macquarie University, since 2010 - distinguished professor of the university [6] , director of the Ancient Cultures Research Center . Member of the Australian Academy of Humanities (1997) and the Royal Society of New South Wales (2015) [7] .
Since 1979, conducting archaeological field research in Upper Egypt. Among his prominent discoveries are the discovery in 2005 of three 2600-year-old mummies by him south of Cairo [8] .
In 2010, a two-volume festschrift dedicated to him was presented entitled “Egyptian Culture and Society: Studies in Honor of the Nagib Kanawati” ( “Egyptian Culture and Society: Studies in Honor of Naguib Kanawati” ) [9] .
He was awarded the Centenary Medal in 2003, and in 2007 - the Order of Australia (AM) [6] .
The author of many works, including 55 monographs [6] .
