Geography
It is located in the west of the central part of the district, 2 kilometers from the border with the Moscow Region . The village is located near the Rybnoe - Uzunovo railway line. A few kilometers west of the village is located Zhitovsk reservoir, built on the river. Tick-borne (tributary. Vozha)
History
As a village with the Church of St. Nicholas is mentioned in the salary books of 1676. According to one of the versions, the name of the village comes from the word “zhito”, that is, bread, the bread holders once appeared here, and the breadbaskets for storing grain. According to another version, the village was named after the landowner who won the cards of the peasants of the village of Dolinka, Kashirsky district, Tula province, and resettled them to a new place in Rybnovskaya volost of Ryazan district.
According to the information of 1859, Zhitovo is a village owned by the Ryazan district of the Ryazan province, at the pond (in 1906, “at the Klescheva river, which flows into the Vuzhu river”); in 1868 - the village of temporarily responsible peasants. It was part of the Rybnovsky parish of the Ryazan district.
At the beginning of the 20th century a mixed parochial school operated in the village. Departure trades prevailed among the inhabitants of the village. During the Great Patriotic War, a field airfield was located near the village, where 836 bomber air regiment and then 35 bomber air regiment were based. A monument to the fallen pilots of 836 air regiment has been erected in Zhitovo.
From 2004 to 2015, the village was the administrative center of the Kozlovsky rural settlement of the Rybnovsky district of the Ryazan region.
