Laird-Claus, Nick

Nick Laird- Clowes ( February 5, 1957 , London , England) is a British musician and composer , best known as a vocalist and one of the main songwriters for the group The Dream Academy. His best-known songs include Life in a Northern Town, The Love Parade, The Edge of Forever, This World, Indian Summer, Power to Believe, and 12/8 Angel.

Biography

Laird-Klaus was a member of Alfalpha and the Act until The Dream Academy. He was also the host of the first series of the music show, The Tube on Channel 4 .

The Dream Academy was formed in the 1980s and released three albums. [2]

His solo album, Mona Lisa Overdrive, was released under the name Trashmonk in 1999 on Alan McGee's Creation Records , and reissued several years later with two additional tracks (Mr Karma and Fur Hat) under the McGee-renewed PopTones label.

As a friend of David Gilmore , with whom he acted as film producer for The Dream Academy and A Different Kind of Weather , he co-wrote the lyrics for two songs on The Division Bell . Like Trashmonk, he was open to some of Gilmore's performances in the early 2000s. Gilmore played in The Dream Academy's song "Living in a War", first released retrospectively on The Morning Lasted All Day's 2014 compilation - A Retrospective .

In recent years, he actively participated in the creation of soundtracks for feature and documentary films, including the Invisible Circus directed by Adam Brooks with Cameron Diaz in the title role. He was the music consultant for The Dreamers by Bernardo Bertolucci, and was responsible for writing music for Cruel People , Griffin Dunn and Wit Licht Jean Van de Velde. He also wrote the music for Nick Broomfield’s film The Battle of Hadith , which premiered at the London Film Festival in 2007. [3] In June 2009, he took part in the production of Broomfield's documentary about Greenpeace, A Time Comes , including the single “Mayday”. He worked as a composer and music consultant for the 2013 Richard Curtis film, It Is Time .

In May 2007, Laird-Klaus organized with Joe Boyd a concert in memory of Sid Barrett's “The Madcap's Last Laugh” (the last laugh of an extravagant) at the Barbican Center in London, in which he also participated as a performer.
