Nana Meriwether ( born Nana Meriwether ; born May 24, 1985 ) is a double volleyball player NCAA All-American UCLA and winner of Miss USA 2012 . Represented the state of Maryland at the national contest Miss USA 2012 and became First Vice Miss USA. December 19, 2012, after the victory of Olivia Calpo at the international beauty contest Miss Universe 2012 , she took the title Miss USA. [1] Nana is currently the assistant to Glenda Bailey , the editor-in-chief of Harper's Bazaar. [2] Karin Roitfeld worked and helped the editor in chief of Fashion Book, Vanity Fair and Vogue Australia. [3] Nana is a co-founder of a 501 (c) (3) the international nonprofit organization Meriwether Foundation, which works with health, education, nutrition, and development programs in rural and poor communities in South Africa. Biography
Born in the capital of South Africa . Father is African American , mother is South African . Parents worked as volunteers. Grew up in the Potomac , Maryland . In 2003 she graduated from Sidwell Friends School. She studied at Duke University one semester, her father Delano Merivezer , was the first African American student. [5] In 2004, she transferred to the University of California at Los Angeles , where she graduated and twice participated in the All-American Athlete . After university, she played professionally in Puerto Rico for the team Las Indias de Mayaguez. [6] Graduate of the University of South Carolina . [7] In 2008-2011, for four years, participated in Miss California. [8] [9]
Miss California 2008
In 2008, she participated in her first Miss California contest, representing Malibu . But did not go to the semifinals.
Miss California 2009
In 2009, she again participated in the competition, which was held in Beverly Hills , where she became the Third Vice Miss.
Miss California 2010
In 2010, became the First Vice Miss of California
Miss California 2011
In 2011, becomes the Fourth Vice Miss California.
Miss Maryland 2012
After four years of performing in California , she decided to take part in her home state of Maryland , where she finally becomes the winner .
Miss USA 2012
Represented the state at the national beauty contest Miss USA 2012 , where she becomes First Vice Miss USA. December 19, 2012, after the victory of Olivia Kulpo at the international beauty contest Miss Universe 2012 . According to the contest protocol, the winner must give up her title in order to fulfill her duties, like Miss Universe. Therefore, the title must pass 1st Vice Miss. After awarding the title of Miss USA to Nane Merivezer, she became the oldest title holder at the age of 27 years.
