Biography
Born in Redwood City , in the family of 19-year-old parents of Craig Smith and Denise Trimble [4] . Her parents divorced when she was two years old. Her mother was an alcoholic and left Chelsea with her grandparents - Barney and Janetta Smith [5] .
When she was seven, she moved with her maternal grandparents to the city of Kingwood ( Texas ). Where grandparents also divorced. She graduated from Deer Park High School in Deer Park . [5] Before winning the Miss USA, she was a sophomore at San Jacinto College. [6]
Miss Texas
In 1994, participated for the first time in a beauty contest. Then she became a semifinalist of Miss Texas , as Miss Southeast Texas [7] . In the same year, Miss USA Galveston County won and received the title of Miss Congeniality [8] . Chelsea is the first multi-racial American [9] - holder of a title in the history of the contest [10] .
Miss USA
She represented the state at the Miss USA 1994 national beauty pageant , which was broadcast live from South Padre Island . Her roommate was Britt Powell, who represented Missouri .
She became an obvious favorite of the contest, entering the number of semi-finalists of the first. She became the fourth representative of the state, reaching the semifinals, but with higher scores than her rivals. It was easy to go out in swimsuits and interviews [6] with high scores, becoming the first in Top 6. As the undisputed leader, she dominated two rounds of the competition.
When asked what the First Lady would change in her image as a consultant, she replied: “I would not change her image. I believe in who I am and today I saw 50 participants who believe in who they are. And I think she would not have done it if she had not been herself. I really believe that it should remain exactly as it is ” [11] . Her answer impressed the judges, which gave her high scores. She became the seventh member to win the Miss USA title and the Miss Congeniality Award. Becoming the only one who won the title of Miss USA, Miss Texas and a special award [12] .
After the contest, she participated in the Wheel of Fortune program [5] and presented awards at the People's Choice Awards [7] .
Miss Universe
After the national contest, she participated in the Miss Universe international beauty contest held in Windhoek ( Namibia ). According to the results of the competition, she received high scores, which allowed her to enter the Top 10 finalists. She received the crown for the first time in the last 15 years of US participation in the Miss Universe [13] .
After beauty contests
The model worked in Hawaiian Tropic , Jantzen [14] , Pontiac , Venus Swimwear , Pure Protein and other companies [15] . Appeared in the TV series Martin , Strictly South , and in the TLC documentary, The History of the Bathing Suit [15] .
With the support of Music World Entertainment / Sony wrote and recorded with producer Damon Elliott , the song "Dom Da Da" - part of the soundtrack for the movie " Cutie " with Cameron Diaz in the title role [15] .
In 2003, she starred in the independent film "Playas Ball" with Allen Payne and Elise Neal . She took part in the filming of Beyonce's film “Beyonce: Family and Friends Tour” and the film “One Flight Stand” shown on HBO with Mark Blucas and Aisha Tyler . She was a judge in the beauty contest Young Miss USA [16] .
On December 28, 1996, she married fitness trainer Kelly Blair [5] . September 11, 2001 they divorced [17] .
In 2011, she was awarded the Influential Multiracial Public Figure \ [18] .
In 2016, she was a judge at the Miss Peru 2016 beauty contest held at the Ecological Center and Studios of America Television Production ( Pachacamac , Lima , Peru ).
Died of liver cancer on September 8, 2018 [19] .
