Biography
In 1971 he graduated from the National School of Administration .
In 1971, he became Secretary General of the Prefecture of the Department of Finister [1] .
From 1974 to 1977, he worked in an administrative position in Guadeloupe , the next three years he was an adviser to the Minister of the Interior of France . In 1981, he worked as Secretary-General for regional affairs in the Center-Loire Valley region , in 1985 he became Secretary-General of the prefecture of the Herault Department, since 1986, in the same position at Hautes -de-Seine , and since 1991, in the Upper Alps [2] .
In 1993, he was appointed deputy director of the apparatus of the Minister of the Interior, Charles Pasqua .
In 1994 - Director General of the National Police.
In 2000, he was appointed prefect of the Brittany region.
In 2002, he became director of the administration of Nicolas Sarkozy in the ministries of the interior and economy.
On May 16, 2007, he was appointed Secretary General of the Presidential Administration Nicolas Sarkozy (he previously led his successful presidential campaign ) [3] .
February 27, 2011 received a portfolio of the Minister of the Interior, Local Government and Immigration in the third government of François Fillon .
In 2012, he went to the parliamentary elections in the 9th district of the Hautes-de-Seine department as a candidate for the Union for the Popular Movement and lost in the second round with a result of 38.41% to non-partisan right Thierry Soler , who was supported by 39.35% of voters (22, Then socialist Martin Even received 24%) [4] .
Legal Prosecution
In 2013, when investigating the alleged by the Gaddafi regime, Gean was forced to explain the appearance on his accounts in 2008 of 500 thousand euros. According to his testimony, the money was obtained from the sale of two paintings of one of the “small Flemings” - [5] .
On June 3, 2015, he was investigated in the context of the Champs Elysees , the subject of which was financial irregularity in organizing polls by the administration of President Sarkozy [6] .
In November 2015, he was sentenced to two years probation, a five-year ban on holding government posts and a fine of 75 thousand euros in the case of illegal bonuses received monthly by employees of the apparatus of the Minister of the Interior, Nicolas Sarkozy. On January 23, 2017, the Court of Appeal sentenced Gean to imprisonment for two years (of which the year was suspended) and upheld the verdict of the trial court in the rest of it [7] [8] .
On November 15, 2016, a documentary investigation film was posted on the Mediapart information website in which Libyan businessman confirmed that he personally transferred three times a suitcase of money for a total of 5 million euros through Claude Gean three times between the end of 2006 and the beginning of 2007 presidential campaign mediator Nicolas Sarkozy. Back in September 2012, the former Libyan intelligence chief of the times of Gaddafi, Abdullah Senussi, gave similar testimonies to an investigator of the International Criminal Court [9] .
In May 2018, Gean was questioned by the in the Kazakhgate case, in which he was held as a suspect and whose circumstances he had already testified to the parliamentary commission in 2017 [10 ] .
On January 16, 2019, the court of cassation made a final decision on the payment of bonus cash in the French Ministry of the Interior: Gean was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison, one of them conditionally [11] .
