SS Career
Klaff was born in Danzig to German parents, received the name Wanda Kalachinski. She graduated from school in 1938 , after which she got a job at a jam factory. In 1942, she married Willy Gapes and became a housewife. In 1944, Wanda joined the staff of the Praust concentration camp in the city of Pruszcz Gdanski , where she abused many prisoners. On October 5, 1944, she transferred to the Stutthof concentration camp in northwestern Poland . At the beginning of 1945, Klaff escaped from the camp, but was arrested by Polish officials on June 11, after which she was imprisoned with typhoid fever .
Judgment and Execution
Kluff appeared in court along with other female security guards. At the trial, she stated: “I am very smart and very dedicated to my work. Every day I hit at least two prisoners. ” She was found guilty and sentenced to death . On July 4, 1946, 24-year-old Klaff was publicly hanged on Biskupia Gorka Hill , near the city of Gdansk .
