Biography
Leopoldo Trieste was born on May 3, 1917 in Reggio Calabria, Italy. He made his film debut at the age of 29 in the late 1940s. In the first years of his acting film career, he starred in two films by Federico Fellini : “The White Sheikh ” (1952) and “ Mama's Son ” (1953).
Trieste was one of the sought-after actors of Italian cinema of the 1960s and 70s. He starred in films and television films in Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, Uruguay, the USA in the works of such well-known directors as Pietro Germy , Dino Risi , Alessandro Blasetti , Roberto Rossellini , Vittorio De Sica , Rene Clement , Stanley Kramer , Jerzy Skolimovsky , Henri Verneuil and Francis Ford Coppola . He played mostly second-order roles. Among the roles of Trieste: Pazzini in the film “ Farewell to Arms ” based on the eponymous novel by Ernest Hemingway , Block in “The Process”, a television adaptation of the novel by Franz Kafka , Mikhail Tsesensky in the film “ The Name of the Rose ” by Jean-Jacques Anno based on the novel by Umberto Eco , the famous violin master instruments of Nicolo Amati in the television movie “ Stradivari ”.
For his masterful performance of the supporting roles of Leopoldo Trieste, he was three times awarded the Silver Ribbon by the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists and in 1996 the David di Donatello national film award .
Leopoldo Trieste is the author of several plays and a number of screenplays, for two of which he produced films as a director: " Night City " (1958) and " Sin of Youth " (1960).
Leopoldo Trieste died on January 25, 2003 in Rome from a heart attack.
