Component (from the Latin. Componens , genus itemis “component”) - an integral part, an element of something [1] .
- In chemistry, a component is a type of particles that make up a substance. The concept of components must satisfy the following requirements [2] : a) independence of the concentration of one component from the concentrations of other components; b) the completeness of the description of the concentration dependence of the properties of the substance; c) preservation of the conditions of electroneutrality of the system. Depending on the number of components, one-component, two-component (binary, binary), three-component (triple) and multicomponent systems are distinguished
- In mineralogy, they distinguish: indifferent components (components whose presence or absence in the mineral complex determines the presence or absence of the corresponding mineral and does not affect the ratio of other minerals); volatile components (gas phase, which is an integral part of the magmatic melt: H 2 O, CO 2 , CO, HCl, HF, H 2 S, SO 2 , N 2 , CH 4 , etc.); terrigenous components (fragments of various minerals that make up sedimentary rocks ); isolated (or excess) mineral components (minerals that consist of more than one inert component, and may also contain moving components).
- in mineralogenesis - a compound or element that is part of a mineral; are divided into quite mobile and inert.
