The album is considered a breakthrough in the band's career. Thanks to his success, New Kids on the Block became idols for teenagers around the world for several years.
Music critics generally respond positively to this album, and praise the group for moving from the bubblegum pop (which we hear on New Kids on the Block 's previous album, 1986) to an interesting mix of urban contemporary music and pop rock . I must say that after the commercial failure of the previous album, Columbia Records had already planned to break the contract with the group, but (producer of the group) still persuaded them to let the guys record another album.
Hangin 'Tough is the band's best-selling album, with total sales in the world exceeding 17 million copies. In Canada, it was certified diamond for sales in more than one million copies, in the United States - eight times platinum for sales in more than eight million copies [3] .
Five singles were released from the album: “ Please Don't Go Girl ”, “ You Got It (The Right Stuff) ”, “ I'll Be Loving You (Forever) ”, “ Hangin 'Tough ” and “ Cover Girl ”. They all hit the United States in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 .
