Biography

He was probably born in 1754 in the family of the archon of Monemvasia Pavlos Sarandinaki and the gentry Elena Aleksiano. After his father died in the struggle against the Turks in 1770, Stamatios Sarandinaki was enlisted as a warrant officer from soldiers on the frigate "St. Paul", whose commander was his uncle - Panagioti Aleksiano . In 1771 he entered the Russian military service, taking the name Eustathius.

September 9, 1771 took part in the landing , landed near the island of Stanchio (now Kos ), which took possession of the Turkish fortress of Kefalo. For this he received the rank of constable ( ensign ) and the post of chief of artillery of the ship. During the years 1772-1774 he was in the Mediterranean Sea . In 1775, together with the squadron, he moved to Kronstadt , where he was enrolled in the artillery team. In 1780 he was promoted to non-commissioned lieutenant of naval artillery.

In 1782, during the transition to Livorno ( Italy ), on the Tverdy ship he received the midshipman’s position and in May of that year he was transferred to the rank of midshipman . As part of the squadron under the command of Vice Admiral A. Cruz , sailed on the English Channel and in December 1782 promoted to the rank of lieutenant .

In 1783 he was transferred to the Azov Flotilla. Since 1784, he was the commander of the Borisfen transport. On January 1, 1787, Eustathius Sarandinaki, at that time already the commander of the frigate "Gregory the Theologian", was promoted to the rank of captain-lieutenant . In the same year, transferred to the commander of the 36-gun frigate "Alexander".

In 1788, for the difference in the battles on the Dnieper estuary near Ochakov , he was promoted to captain of rank II . In 1789-1790, he commanded the 40-gun frigate "Cyril Belozersky", with whom he sailed in the Black Sea and on June 8, 1790 participated in the Battle of Kerch , and on August 28 in the battle at Cape Tendra . July 31, 1791, as the commander of the 50-gun frigate "St. Andrew the First-Called", distinguished himself in the battle at Cape Kaliakriya . After the battle, his ship cruised near Varna , and subsequently returned to Sevastopol .

In the summer of 1798, Captain I Rank Eustathius Sarandinaki took command of the battleship Saint Paul .

Since November 28, 1799 - captain-commander.

In 1803 he retired. He became interested in agriculture , wrote out fruit varieties of fruit trees, and was engaged in viticulture . In 1806, he was a deputy in the Commission to resolve disputes on the right to own land on the Crimean peninsula . In 1807-1808 he headed the Conscientious court of the Tauride province .
