Shapley 1 ( Shapley 1 , Sp 1 , PLN 329 + 2.1 ) [4] - an annular planetary nebula in the constellation of the Nagon ; has a apparent magnitude of +12.6. [5] When observed from Earth, it has the shape of a torus, which is possibly caused by the perpendicularity of the observer’s line of sight and the orbit of the central binary. [2]

The nebula was discovered in 1936 by Harlow Shapley . [4] [5] The distance to the nebula is about 4900 light years (according to other sources, the distance is about 1000 light years [3] ), the age is estimated at 8700 years. [2] The angular dimensions of the nebula are 1.1 angular minutes, [5] which corresponds to the diameter of the nebula equal to one third of the light year. In the center of the nebula is a double star with a circulation period of about 2.9 days.
