The Stanley Cup Final 2017 is the decisive playoff series for the Stanley Cup in the 2016/2017 National Hockey League season . The champions of the Eastern and Western Conferences, Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators respectively, took part in the final. The series started on May 29 [1] at the Pittsburgh home site and ended on June 11 with the victory of the Penguins in the sixth game. For the first time in the history of the NHL, both the head coach of the finalist teams are Americans [2] . The Pittsburgh Penguins became the first club since the 1997/1998 season , which managed to win the Stanley Cup two years in a row.

According to the results of the regular championship, “Pittsburgh” took 2nd place in the Metropolitan Division after the Washington Capitals , gaining 111 points.
In the first round, Penguins beat Columbus Blue Jackets in five games. In the next round, in seven games, the winner of the Presidential Cup , the Washington Capitals, was beaten. In the finals of the conference, the Penguins in seven games defeated the Ottawa Senators .
"Pittsburgh Penguins" participate in the finals for the second year in a row, and this final has become for the team the sixth in history. The club already has four Stanley Cups, the last of which was won in 2016 .

In the regular season 2016/2017, Nashville Predators scored 94 points, took 4th place in the Central Division and received a second Wild Card from the Western Conference.
In the first round of the Nashville playoffs, Chicago Blackhawks won in four games, the next round beat St. Louis Blues with a score of 4-2, and in the Western Conference finals, Predators won the same score with " Anaheim Dax .
This final was the first in the history of the club for Nashville Predators. In the previous three playoff rounds, Nashville lost only one match on the home court.

In the eighth minute of the first period, Predators defender P-Kay Subban scored a goal at Matt Murray , but the goal was canceled due to offside from Philip Forsberg . At the 16th minute of the match, Evgeni Malkin sold a two-player majority and opened the scoring in the match. After 65 seconds, “Pittsburgh” doubled the lead thanks to a goal from Conor Shiri, and 17 seconds before the end of the first period, the score in the match was 3: 0 in favor of “Penguins”. In the second period, Ryan Ellis played one goal, scoring a goal in the majority. At the 51st minute of the match, Colton Sissons reduced the score to the minimum, and in less than 4 minutes, Frederic Gudro compared the score. However, 3 minutes before the end of the match, Jake Genzel again takes Pittsburgh forward, while Nick Bonino hits the empty net and sets the final score in the match - 5: 3 in favor of Pittsburgh. In the second period, “Pittsburgh” did not inflict a single shot on the opponent’s goal, which was the first time in the club’s playoff history.
