This is the largest U.S. Army Command compound. Together with the 18th airborne corps, it forms the basis of the U.S. Ground Forces . Most of the tank brigades are concentrated in the corps (8 out of 10), making it the main tank fist of the U.S. Armed Forces .
Created during the First World War in France. The 3rd Army Corps repelled several major German offensives. The corps was dissolved after the war.
Re-created in the interwar years, the 3rd Army Corps trained the American army before and during World War II, before being directly deployed to the European theater of war, where it directly took part in the Ardennes operation , where the corps broke through the 101st airborne division .
Over the next 50 years, the corps was a key element of training for the U.S. Army as it sent troops overseas during the Cold War , Korean War, and the Vietnam War . However, the corps did not carry out combat deployments until Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.
