Biography
He was born on November 25, 1939 in the city of Visalia, USA [2] . He studied at Ridley College, after which he entered the University of California at Los Angeles [2] . At the university, his teachers included Henry Coster , Dorothy Arzner, and Stanley Kramer. [3] In 1963, Stephen graduated, and in 1965 he was drafted into the army [2] [3] . After returning from the army, he decided to go to California to begin his career as a cameraman [2] . At first, he worked as an assistant operator on the set of commercials and low-budget films. In 1976, director Francis Ford Coppola , with whom they studied at the University of California [2] , invited Stephen to the second camera crew to shoot the film “ Apocalypse Today .” As the main cameraman, Barum collaborated with Coppola on the films Outlaws and Fighting Fish . Also known for his collaboration with filmmaker Brian De Palma . Among their collaborations are films like The Untouchables , Carlito 's Way , Mission Impossible , and Snake Eyes .
For camera work in the film “ Hoffa, ” Barum received an American Society of Cameramen prize [4] and an Oscar nomination [5] .
Member of the American Society of Cameramen since 1974 [6] .
