Biography
In 1966, she participated in the Florida State Beauty Contest, where she became Vice-Miss [2] . The following year became “ Miss Florida 1967” and represented the state at Miss USA 1967 , held in Miami Beach . She became the Second Vice-Miss, the winner was Sylvia Hitchcock [3] .
In July of that year, Sylvia Hitchcock became the fourth representative of the United States to win the Miss Universe 1967 international beauty pageant , so the title Miss USA was to be transferred to the First Vice Miss. The first Miss Vice - Susan Ellen Bradley - refused to accept the title "Miss USA", and Patton became "Miss USA 1967" [1] . This is the only case when the participant who took 2nd place, refused the title. In February 1968, Patton filed a lawsuit alleging that contest leaders refused to pay her a premium of $ 5,000 for her right to the title as stipulated in the contract [4] . The judge ruled in her favor in June, stating that it does not matter that the amount has already been paid to Hitchcock [5] .
Patton later married and had a son. In the 1980s, she lived in North Miami [6] .

Patton was originally 2nd Runner-Up, but became Miss USA after the original titleholder, Sylvia Hitchcock, won Miss Universe and 1st Runner-Up, Susan Bradley, refused the title. Due to pageant protocol Miss USA must resign her title in the event she wins Miss Universe.
