Zheltov, Sergey Yuryevich

Sergei Yuryevich Zheltov was born on April 26, 1956 in the family of a scientist, specialist in the field of oil production . His father - professor - Yuri Vasilyevich Zheltov, who graduated from the Moscow Petroleum Institute. I. M. Gubkina , was the head of the laboratory for the development of oil fields at the Institute of Geology and the Development of Combustible Minerals (IGiRGI) ^[2] .

In 1973, Sergei Yuryevich entered the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology ( MIPT ) at the Faculty of Management and Applied Mathematics . And in his student years in 1977, Zheltov began to work part-time, first as a technician, and then as a junior research fellow at the Research Institute of Automatic Systems (NIIAS). In 1979, he entered the graduate school of MIPT. Since 1982, Sergei Yuryevich, becoming a full-time employee of NIIAS (now Federal State Unitary Enterprise “State Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Systems”), he worked in the following positions: Junior Researcher, Head of Sector, Head of Laboratory ( 1990 ), Deputy Head of GosNIIAS for Information Technologies ( 1997 ) In 2005, Sergey Yuryevich became the First Deputy General Director of GosNIIAS. Since 2006, S. Yu. Zheltov - General Director of FSUE GosNIIAS. In May 2006, Sergei Yuryevich was elected a corresponding member of the RAS. Since October 2016, S. Yu. Zheltov is a full member ( academician ) of the Russian Academy of Sciences ^[3] .

The scientific activity of S. Yu. Zheltov is devoted to the creation of aviation control systems and information processing. In the first years of his work at the NIIAS, under the leadership of E. A. Fedosov and G. G. Sebryakov, he developed computer models of complex man-machine aircraft control systems. Since 1985, S. Yu. Zheltov has been developing a new scientific direction at GosNIIAS - technical vision in control systems. Under his leadership and with direct participation, numerous projects have been completed, such as:

• research and development of methods for detecting objects in a complex phono-target environment,
• development of methods for processing and integrating information obtained from two-dimensional sensors of various physical nature ^[4] ,
• creation of automated image analysis techniques for remote sensing systems,
• a series of works on the development of photogrammetric methods for reconstructing three-dimensional scenes from two-dimensional images and their application to the formation of databases for “ virtual reality ” systems,
• creation of algorithms and systems for detecting obstacles for land vehicles and mobile robots,
• creation of algorithmic and software for automatic identification systems based on reading bar codes with two-dimensional sensors in difficult shooting conditions,
• creation of methods and systems for biometric identification.

The main scientific and technical results of Zheltov S. Yu .:

• mathematical methods have been developed for optimizing human-machine control systems for dynamic objects,
• methods and algorithms for technical vision for use in on-board equipment complexes are proposed and investigated,
• new methods of modeling and virtual prototyping of aviation systems have been created,
• technologies for life cycle management of elements of aviation systems based on integrated automatic identification tools have been proposed and implemented ^[5] .

S. Yu. Zheltov - author and co-author of more than 200 publications, including those published in leading world publications ^[6] .

Participation in scientific communities

• one of the organizers and leaders of the “Russian Regional Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing” (ROPDZ) ^[7]
• in 2008-2012, co-chairman of the working group of the International Organization of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing ( ISPRS ) ^[8]

He prepared 10 candidates of technical sciences and 1 doctor of physical and mathematical sciences.
